Cargo traffic between Finland and Russia is expected to almost completely cease on November 18, according to Olli-Pekka Penttilä, head of statistics at the Finnish Customs. He was quoted by RIA Novosti.

However, freight trains will still be able to pass through the Vainikkala railway border checkpoint on the Russian border. The customs representative urged the redirection of cargos, currently transported by road through Russia, to transit routes.

The Finnish government previously decided to close four border crossings with Russia until February 18 due to deteriorating migration conditions. The border checkpoints affected are Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra, and Niirala.
