"We are closer to a nuclear catastrophe than ever. This regression particularly concerns me, as our country has made a significant contribution to nuclear disarmament. Without political will at a global level, it is practically impossible to achieve tangible progress in this area," Nazarbayev declared.

He reminded that at the "Astana Club" meeting in November 2019, he proposed the creation of a Global Alliance of Leaders (GAL) for nuclear safety and a world free of nuclear weapons.

Earlier, the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called nuclear weapons a guarantee of security in the region. However, he emphasized that Belarus "threatens no one."
