In Russia, government employees will not receive salary increases next year. The State Duma has passed a law in its third and final reading to suspend the indexation of salaries until January 2025.

The measure will affect judges, prosecutors, investigators, assistants to deputies and senators, police officers, and military personnel. According to the explanatory note to the document, the decision will not apply to wage indexation for workers in budgetary sector organizations.

Temporarily refraining from raising the salaries of state employees will save 36 billion rubles of budget funds, reports TASS. Following the publication of the document, the Ministry of Finance stated that the measure would not affect military personnel and law enforcement officers. The State Duma Committee on State Building recommended adopting corresponding amendments to the bill on Monday.

From October 1, 2023, salaries for certain categories of public servants in Russia increased by 5.5 percent. This decree was signed by the country's President, Vladimir Putin. Moreover, salaries for military positions and ranks for contract soldiers were raised even more significantly, by 10.5 percent. This also included military personnel serving by conscription and those government employees belonging to the security sector.
