Condoms in Russia have seen a price increase, not due to cartel collusion, but because of the weakening of the ruble. This statement was made to NSN by Maximilian Lapin, the founder of the "Pink Rabbit" store chain.

"There can be no talk of any collusion, as the price increase is minimal. Mostly, it's due to changes in currency exchange rates since some components are bought abroad," explained the industry representative.

Intimate product stores are not raising prices but are instead trying to keep them stable, as they observe that "everything else has almost doubled or more in price." In comparison with buckwheat, condoms have only become 5-10 percent more expensive, added Lapin.

Previously, State Duma Deputy Sultan Khamzaev suspected Russian sellers of engaging in a cartel agreement. He asked the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) to investigate why a pack of three condoms in pharmacies rose to 300 rubles, while domestic products are almost absent from the shelves. Condoms are considered socially significant goods as they help combat the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and prevent unwanted pregnancies, which can "harm the physical and psychological health of women," he emphasized.

Earlier, it was revealed that Russian condom manufacturers encountered unexpected problems amid sanctions and a shift to alternative markets for procurement. Challenges arose due to discrepancies between the average penis sizes of Russians and Southeast Asians, from where the necessary raw materials are sourced. The need for custom-made condoms has led to increased costs and production timelines in Russia.
