The Russian State Duma intends to ban the adoption of Russian children by citizens of countries where gender reassignment procedures are available. This new legislative proposal was announced by State Duma Deputy Vasily Piskarev, as reported by RIA Novosti.

The specific date when this new bill on the prohibition of foreigners adopting Russian children will be introduced to the lower chamber of the parliament is not specified.

"It should be noted that by introducing this ban on adoption by foreign nationals, we are essentially imposing a ban on adoptions by NATO countries, as most countries that allow adoptions and same-sex marriages are NATO member states," emphasized Piskarev.

On August 1, 2022, a bill was also submitted to the State Duma to prohibit the adoption of children from Russia by citizens of unfriendly countries. The State Duma Committee on Family Affairs has already supported it.
