Russian Ambassador Oleg Stepanov commented on Ottawa's new sanctions, stating that the Canadian authorities are "flipping through a phone book" to find targets. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

"It's more a sign of the Canadian authorities' impotence in their Russophobia: they no longer know whom to subject to restrictions and, as they say, are flipping through a phone book," the diplomat explained.

Stepanov also mentioned that this decision on sanctions, like previous measures, is devoid of any sense. He emphasized that steps to impose restrictions on academics, political analysts, cultural figures, scientific institutes, and media have an "anti-democratic nature."

Canada had earlier imposed sanctions on six Russian legal entities, including REN TV and "Izvestia." The sanctions list also included "Parliamentary Newspaper" and online media Russia Beyond. Additionally, Canada listed nine individuals from Russia in the sanctions.
