Reason for the Rise in Egg Prices in Russia Explained
Expert Lomakin-Rumyantsev: Egg prices in Russia have risen due to bird flu

Recently, egg prices in Russia have risen due to changes in the ruble exchange rate — the weakened currency led to an increase in the prices of medicines, equipment, and overall what was purchased abroad for the production of eggs and chicken meat, explained Ilya Lomakin-Rumyantsev, the head of the consumer market development center at the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University, on the radio station "Govorit Moskva."
The dynamics were also affected by bird flu, which led to a decrease in supply. Concurrently, the demand for eggs and chicken meat has increased, as these are cheaper than regular meat, the expert clarified.
The economist added that to reduce prices, it is necessary to identify sellers who unjustifiably inflate the cost and to stabilize prices through large retailers. "Retail chains have demonstrated their ability as guarantors of social stability," he said.
Over the year, the average retail price of eggs in Russia has increased by more than 40 percent. The General Prosecutor's Office has already shown interest in the price increase of the product.
